Bài viết dành riêng cho xờ-ta-tớp (start-up) ** Nó vượt qua những lợi ích đơn thuần của việc học tiếng Anh như để đi du học, làm việc ở nước ngoài hay để dễ kiếm việc hoặc tăng lương. Bài viết cũng không dừng lại ở mức độ “mua vui”.

** Xờ-ta-tớp, xờ-ti-tớ hay xờ-ta-trước là một loại cá Cu Bắc cở lớn, được nhập khẩu vào Việt Nam không lâu nhưng rất được ưa chuộng và đang rất thịnh hành. Cá ngon nhưng nhiều xương nên khuyên các bạn ăn từ từ, khéo cả bị mắc xương giống mình. Đau lắm!

Tự ngẫm.. ở Xin-gà-po (Singapore), cơ sở vật chất tốt thế, điều kiện tốt thế (1 ngày, 2 đô-la và 1 công ty được thành lập vẫn mãi là một câu chuyện thú vị) thế mà người dân họ phần lớn vẫn rất e dè với xờ-ta-tớp. Ấy thế mà ở Việt Nam, xờ-ta-tớp mọc lên như nấm. Nhóm Lon (Launch) ở Phang-bừa (Facebook) từ vài trăm thành viên nay cũng đã lên đến hơn 5 ngàn. Ui chao. Răng mà rộn ràng rứa hèo?…
Thôi không mất thời gian, mình hãy vào thẳng vấn đề.

Tại sao bạn làm xờ-ti-tớ?

Có nhiều lý do khiến rất nhiều bạn đang “ngày quên ăn, đêm quên ngủ” với việc kinh doanh và khởi nghiệp của mình. Chúng ta hãy thử điểm qua một số lý do chính:

– Tiền?

Nếu bạn thật sự muốn kiếm nhiều tiền thì có lẻ xờ-ti-tớ không phải là một khởi đầu tốt cho bạn. Rô-bớt Sa-cơ-lỡ-vận (Robert Kyosaki) trong cuốn sách “Rất-đú, Phải-đú” (Rich Dad Poor Dad) nối tiếng của mình đã nói “Tôi không khuyến khích bạn thành lập công ty trừ khi bạn thật sự muốn… 9 trên 10 công ty thất bại trong 5 năm đầu tiên. 90% trong số những công ty trụ lại được sau 5 năm đầu cuối cùng cũng thất bại… Nếu như bạn không có một khát khao cháy bỏng để sở hữu một công ty riêng thì tôi khuyên bạn nên giữ công việc chính hàng ngày của mình…”

Thật vậy, nếu bạn muốn có một cuộc sống tốt đẹp, dư dã với nhà “1 tầng” và xe hơi riêng, thì trước tiên bạn hãy làm thật tốt công việc chính của mình. Sau đó, “Rất-đú, Phải-đú”, “Tờ rít-chít mông lượm bao-ny-lông (The Richest Man in Babylon), “mây-mưa nhớ-mang-bao-nha-mày” (Money management), “phát-xít in-câm” (Passive Income)… là những cụm từ và cuốn sách mà có thể bạn đang muốn tìm hiểu thêm chứ không phải là khởi nghiệp hay là xờ-ta-tớp gì gì đó.

– “Máu kinh doanh”?

Đây là cụm từ rất “hót”, nghe rất quen tai và cũng rất hay. Nhưng liệu bạn có nên làm xờ-ti-tớ nếu bạn chỉ có máu kinh doanh? Câu trả lời có lẻ là không. Nếu bạn thật sự có “máu kinh doanh”, phải chăng sẽ tốt hơn rất nhiều nếu bạn trở thành một doanh nhân, nhà đầu tư hay thậm chí là một Xì-í-âu (CEO),  Xay-bia-đi-ẩu (CBDO) cho một công ty lớn cỡ như chi nhánh khu vực của Mai-cồ-sến (Microsoft), Da-hư (Yahoo) hay Phang-bừa hoặc tệ tệ cũng là Việt-teo (Viettel) hoặc Ép-phê-tê (FPT)? Ở những vị trí đó, bạn có vô số cơ hội thuận lợi hơn để phát triển và tận dụng cái máu me cũng như khả năng kinh doanh của mình. Thật khó để nói làm Xì-í-âu cho Việt-teo hay mở công ty riêng cái nào dễ hơn cái nào, nhưng có lẻ khởi nghiệp là một cái gì đó nó lớn và khác hơn nhiều so với cái gọi là “máu kinh doanh”.

Một số lý do tiêu biểu khác:

– Tôi muốn tự do, tôi chỉ muốn làm sếp, tôi không thích làm dưới trướng người khác? Không, không, cuộc sống không phải là câu truyện cổ tích hay là một ô chữ xếp hình mà bạn có thể tự do thiết kế vị trí của mình một cách tùy tuyện như vậy. Chẳng có ai thích nghèo cả, mà họ vẫn nghèo đấy thôi.

– Nổi tiếng? Đây là thời đại và kỉ nguyên “công nghệ thông tin” nơi mà chỉ cần bạn chụp và “ấp”(up) 1 bức ảnh séc-xi (sexy) hoặc nói năng tạp nham hay tuyên ngôn 1 câu “bất hủ” về độ nhảm nhí, vớ vẫn nào đó ở bờ-ao (blog) hoặc Phang-bừa của mình là bạn đã được lên báo – hoặc là được tung hô, hoặc là bị chửi bới, ném gạch đá tứ tung. Vậy thì cớ sao cứ phải xờ-ti-tớ?

– Nhiều bạn lại cho rằng, bởi vì ai cũng (làm) xờ-ti-tớ, nên tớ cũng phải xờ-ta-trước! (!?) Không, không, xờ-ta-tớp không phải là chiến trường. Nó không cần nhà nhà, người người “tham chiến”. Xờ-ta-tớp cũng chả phải là một cuộc vui đúng nghĩa bởi nơi đó kẻ cười thì ít mà kẻ khóc thì nhiều. Xờ-ta-tớp càng không phải là một thứ mì ăn liền rẻ tiền vức vưỡng ngoài thị trường bởi vì nó lâu chín và khó nhai…

Nếu phải kể ra một lý do chính để ai đó nên làm xờ-ta-tớp thì đó phải là đam mê. Đam mê nói theo cách dân dã có nghĩa là làm hoài mà không chán. Bạn cực kì thích thú với những gì bạn làm. Bạn có thể bỏ ra hàng giờ, thậm chí chục giờ hàng ngày để làm việc đó một cách thoải mái. Xìa-tiền-cha (Steve Jobs) cũng tiếc lộ đam mê là một trong những bí mật trong thành công của ông. Lý do rất đơn giản bởi vì theo ông nếu không có đam mê, trước những thử thách, sóng gió cực lớn mà bất cứ xờ-ta-tớp nào cũng phải đối mặt, không sớm thì muộn rồi bạn cũng sẽ từ bỏ nó. Bạn sẽ không bất ngờ khi nghe nhiều Xi-i-âu nổi tiếng thế giới hay gần gũi hơn là của Váy-em-phê-tê (VNPT), nhaccuatui nói về câu chuyện thành lập công ty của mình. Họ làm không phải vì tiền, sự nổi tiếng hay “máu kinh doanh” mà đơn giản chỉ vì đó là những việc mà họ đam mê.

Đam mê là thứ cần thiết, nhưng chỉ đam mê không có lẻ là chưa đủ. Dường như bạn cần thêm một cách gì đó nữa để kéo bạn ra khỏi cái nhỏ bẻ của căn nhà hay phòng thí nghiệm của riêng mình. Nó có thể là một khát khao cống hiến hay là một tầm nhìn lớn…

Nhiều bạn muốn đóng góp một cái gì đó lớn hơn so với những gì họ có thể làm cá nhân. Và đó là lý do họ cần xờ-ta-tớp – một tập hơp của những người “giống nhau”. Nhiều bạn khác lại tự cảm nhận mình có 1 khả năng đặc biệt như là họ sinh là để làm một cái gì đó lớn lao, vĩ đại… Ồ, bạn muốn biết bạn có phải là một người như vậy? Mình thích cách ví von của Sờ Pa-li-va (S. Pavliva), nếu bạn phải hỏi chính mình câu hỏi này thì có lẻ bạn không phải là một người như vậy rồi. Mình xin lỗi…

Tại sao bạn phải biết lý do bạn làm xờ-ta-tớp hay rộng ra là bất cứ việc bạn làm? Đơn giản bởi vì nếu bạn không biết lý do bạn làm (mục đích, điểm đến, được gì), thì dù sớm hay muộn bạn cũng sẽ bỏ cuộc. Một con bò rừng hung hãng ngu ngốc có thể phi húc đỗ mọi thứ nó đi qua khi nó được kích động, nhưng rồi sẽ đến một thời gian nó phải dừng lại vì chẳng ai theo nổi nó để tiếp tục kích động và nó cũng mệt rồi, nó đói và khát. Mà khi đã dừng lại rồi thì nó cũng chả dám đi tiếp. Dại gì mà đi? Được gì? Hay là kiếp chút gì đó ăn trước. Ngày qua ngày… Thú hoang còn thế huống gì là người. Thế đó tốt nhất là trước khi làm bất cứ việc gì bạn nên biết vì sao bạn lại làm điều đó. Nếu không…

Bạn là ai?

Có rất, rất nhiều lý do giải thích vì sao 1 xờ-ta-tớp thất bại. Thiếu “ý tướng lớn”, nhân lực giỏi và đặc biệt là không đủ vốn là những lý do thường được nhắc tới… Bạn thiếu vốn? Ô-kê, vậy nếu như bạn đang có trong tay 1 triệu đô thì bạn sẽ làm gì với nó? Bao nhiêu bạn thật sự có câu trả lời chính đáng cho câu hỏi này? Mình nghĩ là không nhiều. Bạn muốn thuê người giỏi? Ai là người bạn đang nhắm tới? Bạn muốn tạo một sản phẩm vĩ đại? Bạn định làm cái quái quỷ cụ thể gì hay vẫn chỉ là muốn “lật đổ Phang-bút” hay “thay thế Ghế-gỗ (Google)”? Mình thích câu nói của anh Justin Khương, tiền không giải quyết được những vấn đề cần não bạn giải quyết!
Nhiều bạn lại rất thụ động, họ chờ và đợi. Họ chờ để gặp một Mất Xiền-là-có-bằng (Mark Zuckerburg) thứ 2 để có thể nâng tầm sản phẩm. Họ đợi một nhà đầu từ hào phóng để có thể thay đổi toàn bộ cục diện cuộc chơi… Tiếc thay, những điều này gần như không tưởng. May mắn thường chỉ đi kèm với tài năng.

Dường như phần lớn các xờ-ta-tớp thất bại không phải là do những yếu tố bên ngoài (kể trên) mà phần lớn là nó thất bại ngay từ bên trong mà cơ bản nhất vẫn là yêu tố con người. Những người thành lập hoặc không đủ nhiệt huyết và kiên nhẫn để theo đuổi đến cùng giấc mơ và hoài bão của chính mình hoặc thiếu sự nhạy bén, tinh tế để truyền cái khác khao, nhiệt huyệt đó vào các thành viên khác hoặc không đủ “trình” (độ) và (bản) “lĩnh” để làm dù chỉ là một trong những việc kể trên – họ không giỏi về bất cứ một lĩnh vực gì, dù đó có là lĩnh vực chuyên môn hay cơ bản như khả năng giao tiếp, học và tiếp thu nhanh, tính toán tốt… Mà nếu như ngay cả chính bạn – những người thành lập, cũng không đủ giỏi thì làm sao bạn có thể thu hút được những tài năng khác!?

Nhiều bạn tự nhận mình là em-tơ-bơ-rờ-nó (entrepreneur), xưng danh là phao-đù (founder), phong mình là Xì-í-âu, đang làm một xờ-ti-tớ rất hoành tráng (vâng, có bạn đã thật sự đòi lật đổ cả Phang-bút!!) nhưng rất “vô duyên”, “trẻ con”, bảo thủ và ích kỉ. Họ nói giỏi hơn làm, thích khoe hơn là chia sẻ vì sợ bị người khác ăn cướp ý tưởng! (!?) Thật nực cười, nếu ai đó nghèo ý tưởng đến vậy, mình có thể chia sẻ ngay cho họ 10 ý tưởng “lớn”. Ít nhất 8 trong số đó “thành công trên lý thuyết”. Việc còn lại “chỉ” là đi làm nó. Haha. Thế mới biết nghĩ hay không bằng nói giỏi mà nói hay cũng chả bằng làm giỏi. Nhiều bạn khác chuyên môn làng nhàng, kỉ năng giao tiếp, quản lí dự án hay làm việc theo nhóm còn kém – nếu không muốn rất kém, vậy mà cũng bon chen mở trại – thức khuya – bật đèn làm xờ-ta-tớp… Buồn cười!

Bạn muốn gì?

Bạn muốn gì? Tham vọng, hoài bão của bạn là gì? Nếu giấc mơ của bạn chỉ đơn giản là để mở một quán cà-phê hay một tiệm tạp hóa nho nhỏ cạnh nhà thì đương nhiên bạn sẽ không cần phải học tiếng Anh và cũng chả cần đọc bài viết này. Nhưng trước khi bạn rời đi hay đọc tiếp thì mình nghĩ bạn nên dành riêng cho mình một phút – chỉ một phút thôi để đối diện với chính mình: “Bạn thật sự muốn gì? Liệu bạn có thật sự hài lòng, hạnh phúc khi bạn đật được mục tiêu ban đầu của bạn?”

Có thật là bạn chỉ muốn xây dựng một công ty với lợi nhuận mỗi tháng chỉ đủ để nuôi sống bạn và gia đình? Nếu thật vậy, như đã nói ở trên, vì sao bạn phải nhất quyết mở công ty. Có vô số con đường khác giúp bạn đạt được điều này. Xi-í-âu, giám đốc kinh doanh hay thậm chí chỉ là một trưởng chí nhánh các ngân hàng ở Việt Nam lương mỗi tháng có thể lên đến trăm triệu. Nhân viên làm việc cho các công ty xuyên quốc gia mỗi tháng tệ tệ cũng kiếm được vài chục triệu. Bạn muốn gì sau khi bạn mở công ty? 50 triệu hay 100 triệu mỗi tháng? Như đã nói ở trên, nếu bạn vẫn chưa biết bạn thích và muốn gì thì tốt nhất bạn nên dừng lại ở đây…

The Future of English

One of the many predictions about the future of English is that the language as we know will be spoken only by a minority of English speakers. Indeed, it is predicted that by 2020 only 15 percent of English speakers will be natives. The Standard English would be diverse as many other Englishes are being formed all the time. Singlish in Singapore is the epitome.

During 146 years (1819–1965) under British colonial rule, the Standard English in Singapore had always been British English. However, no sooner had Singapore declared independence in 1965 than English in Singapore began to take a life of its own, leading to the development of modern day Singapore Standard English. Singapore Standard English began to take root and the so-called “Singlish” began to evolve among the working classes who learned English without formal schooling. As Creolization has occurred, Singlish is nowadays a fully formed, stabilized, and independent English-based Creole language. Some scholars believe that Singlish indicates the way wherein future Englishes will develop.

To illustrate the point, in terms of vocabulary, some words obviously come from English, for example, blur (confuse). But others may come from Malay and Hokkien. Makan, meaning “to eat”, and Nia, meaning “only” are exemplary words from Malay and Hokkien respectively. Some of these words now become an integral part of Singapore Standard English. In terms of grammar, subject – verb agreement and tenses are matters of choice, and what is more, “to be” can be optional. The phrase “I not so old lah, I 18 nia.” exemplifies the point. Some of the so-called “sophisticated” grammars such as word inversion and question tag are also omitted in colloquial language. There is a little wonder that such phrases like “You’re from where?” and “She love him, is it?” become more and more ubiquitous. In this case, “Is it” implies that speakers are simply confirming something they have already inferred. The more English spreads, the more it diversifies, the more it could tend toward fragmentation. Just as Latin, which once ruled over a great linguistic empire, does split into French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian and Catalan, so may the future of English be not as a single language but as a parent of a family of languages. There would be not only Singlish but also Chinglish, Hinglish or Spanglish.

Some researchers believe that the future of English will be shaped by persons who speak English as a second language – those who vastly outnumbers the native speakers. It is striking that whereas the standard English talk about something or discuss something, almost foreign English speakers discuss about something. Perhaps even words considered mispronounced or misspelling would take their place in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED). In Korea,Taiwan and elsewhere, for instance, a product is a produk. In Singapore and Australia, purchase is pronounced as “pɜːˈtʃeis”. Likewise, the complicated English tag system, do you? don’t you? have you? haven’t you? – will, in all likelihood, be simplified. It is supposed that is it or nesspa ( form the French n’est ce pas or isn’t it) could supplant all of them.

Nowadays, the advent of online and mobile communication will only serve to speed up the process of diverging English. Text English, for instance, has emerged as the more comprehensible English for its users and therefore being influential on the future of the language. ‘I love you ‘ now becomes more prevalently the text, i luv u; ‘going to’, gonna and so forth. Here comes a word recently accepted by the OED, tweet (or twitter) – a message sent using the Twitter social networking service. Another new word is google, meaning to find information about something or somebody using the search engine Google. It may be generalized as “to search for information on the web, particularly by using the Google search engine; to search the web for information related to a new or potential girlfriend or boyfriend”!? These following words may also be embraced in the OED in the near future.

e-employee: an employee who works at home through a personal computer
