National Achiever Congress 2012

My first ever seminar: The National Achiever Congress 2012. I attended the last day as my bro passed me his ticket – which was free but sadly I didn’t registered. Missed a great chance to see Robert Kyiosaki in person. Anyway I learned a lot in though. Here are some of the keywords:

The last presentation was former vice president of Microsoft’s. They saved the big name for last. His presentation was as boring as a Uni lecture though. He had 7 points & a good quote:

#1. Be a person who actively looks for opportunity (Disruption & Change)

#2. Re-invent yourself when necessary (personal values, etc.)

#3. Always strive to make a difference

#4. Commit to be a top performer

A strong leader is both hard headed and soft hearted – Dave Packard

Hard headed – products/profits & results + high standard..

Soft hearted: care about people, customers & communications

#5. Be self-aware/seek out & open to feedback (accept bad news/criticisms)
Be hard on yourself! – point of views/perspective

#6. Perseverance has rewards
Things don’t usually work at the first time
Try different things
Keep moving forward

#7. Integrity is your foundation/reputation
commit to do what you say
what’s the right things to do?

A personal lessons: Be ready (communications, questions, common sense knowledge, etc.) & know what to ask. Else waste your chance even if you meet great people.

In short, it was a great day!

* The red ones are those I am attempting to do
* The strike-through ones are those I have completed
// My comment on a challenge
[ ] My progress
[] Deleted task

YOU SHOULD HAVE A SIMILAR LIST OF YOUR OWN! Share it with me in the comment below.

Tips:
– The first thing that I’ve learned from writing and doing this list is to try not to get yourself overwhelmed. Writing 66 things to do is so exciting; but looking at brand new 66 things to be completed is scary. So what I did is I recalled if I have done anything special before, wrote it down and crossed it (but I don’t think any single task in my list is straightforward. It’s kinda challenging for anyone to complete it). Doing that made me motivated to keep doing other tasks and less overwhelmed, which would likely cause procrastination. But don’t overdo it, self-satisfaction also leads to procrastination.

– The second thing is to try to break a big task into smaller & easier ones that you feel it’s can be achievable in the near future. Say if you’re overweight, don’t try to get 6-pack abs straight away. Instead, try to lose weight first. In fact, many tasks in this list are subsets of big challenges that I want to do in my lifetime. Again don’t overwhelm yourself, writing “to be a millionaire” while you’re broke is utterly impractical and useless as you’re unlikely to achieve it soon.

– Last but not least, it’s not necessary to have competitive tasks. Generally, for those that’s in my speciality, I usually set higher standard or more difficult tasks than the rest. Moreover, in my opinion, the important thing is for you to challenge yourself. So try to get out of your comfort zones and do different kinds of new stuff. Don’t just go around doing things that you’re good at. Set and do formidable tasks! (Feel free to change to more interesting tasks)

I’ll upload & share with you guys about those challenges I’ve completed. Just click on the strike-through titles to view it. Stay tuned!

XYZ Site Intro

I’ve seen a tons of your blogs, what the heck is this one?

Honestly, I have kept a good habit of writing and blogging. In fact, I started blogging about 3,4 years ago: writing for a while, stopped then I changed to another one….. Came back, writing, stopped and then changed to another one… It repeated 3 or 4 times until now when I decide to have a blog coded and hosted by myself. I seriously want a place to learn, to share & as a blog, to keep track of memorable moments.

Learning by Doing

It’s incredibly dull and boring to spend all your time reading books and doing tutorials, which is a popular learning method right now. Obviously, I didn’t and would never like it. In my point of view, a philosophy is good only if it’s applicable not just in an ideal world. Likewise, a fancied tutorial is really useful if it can be made used of and not just for experiment and so do knowledge. My knowledge would be just like a rubbish if I couldn’t utilise it nor put it into “action”. And yah, for those who’ve ever questioned my skills, my “tangible products” would serve as a good answer for them: “Hey, take a look and see what I have done. I may not remember what “Encapsulation” exactly means at the time, but I can use and apply it. See my designs as well, it’s not bad, isn’t it?”

then Writing about it
One of the best ways for me to learn new things is to write about it. It forces me to research the topic, learn the technology and digest what I have learned via writing as obviously I never wanna let my friends or visitors ridicule what I’ve written. It is a simple yet effective way of learning new stuff. Of course, writing itself is already useful. It makes me learn how to organize and express my ideas succinctly.
However, because of that seriousness, last time I couldn’t “produce” as much posts as I could. In deed, many articles of mine are still in my pending list, though lots of them are nearly finished ones. Procrastination cos of I am too careful? I try to improve it this time by writing short posts instead of a full and lengthy one.

Another importance of blogging

In the past, I used to use blog to show off something or to communicate sth that I couldn’t say. Yup, it’s a part but the actual importance of blogging comes from the fact that my mind is just a temporary memory. As a PC user, I would think of it as a RAM – a volatile type of memory. As time passes by, my memory will inevitably lose its data, one by one, a little by little. However, I don’t think, they’re lost completely and thoroughly. They’re still somewhere in my mind, just that I may not remember it at a particular point of time. They need a trigger and that’s the point of blogging, which will help remind of something important. Having lived for 20 years, I realise I should blog – blog more & take a picture – take more pictures in the future. I will not go away nor say “No, no, no” as I used to when somebody is gonna take a picture of me 🙂

Blogging is also a good way to keep track of my progress. As a person, I will definitely progress over time but how do I measure it? In this case, I can’t use my memory or mind (to compare) any more. Blogging comes as a good solution once again. As I review, I know exactly (the differences between) who I am today and who I was 5 years ago.

<! deleted !> I’ve already added Facebook like and comment into my blog
Although I would welcome feedback, I don’t feel like comment section is necessary right now. It is partially because I think it is a source of dispute and argument . First encountering an idea, some people like it, some don’t. It’s really natural and it’s not necessary to go any further from that. A comment itself cannot help. Let the guy alone, let him learn the lesson by himself.
I don’t like passed-by comments (even sweet compliments) either;  frank critiques are better. If there is anyone who seriously wanna feedback, either compliment or criticize, I will always welcome their emails.
I would consider adding FB like buttons though I’d not really love my personal thoughts be shared. Anyway, if I keep it all to myself, it’s self-fish and boring like writing a dull diary. I will find a good way of sharing what I know and of keeping my personal stuff.
